In September month face book has launched its lighter version and on the same lead You Tube has also introduced an experimental and lighter version of its video player pages called ‘Feather’.

The lighter and simpler version created for those who just want to access video without much hassles
The You Tube feather is boon for those who have slow internet connectivity or broadband connection. This new leightweight version will save the time of downloading a video and accelerate the video-playing process ‘Feather’ pages do a number of things like defaulting to the standard quality version in lieu of high quality or HD, video page only shows a limited number of comments, and associated features.

Associated videos, comments and other recognizable features from the current watch page are kept to a minimum. Video replies, real-time sharing, and auto-suggest from YouTube’s search bar have also been slashed. Nevertheless, related videos remain– Even though, at a more limited 5 videos compared to YouTube’s usual offering of 21.
Keeping all this in mind, an ultra light watch page, “Feather,” is launched in TestTube, YouTube’s TestTube page. TestTube for YouTube is the corresponding of the “Lab” features one finds on GMail that lets one to take part in Google experimental features for their products.

The YouTube interface is made much lighter with the new “Feathers” experiment which put focus on the most significant thing people use YouTube for, i.e. the videos.

As mentioned above, with the “Feathers” experiment facilitate, users videos will now default to standard quality, and the video page will only shows a limited number of comments, and associated features.

As per the YouTube blog, “All of this results in a user experience that aims to keep things simple and the videos loading and playing quickly. If we see adoption go up along with improvements in latency, we’ll look to roll this out of TestTube and make it more widely available.”
