Just like the old postal service motto about not being stopped by sleet or rain or anything else, Henry County High School senior Lennies McFerren ran the Henry County High School football team to a 20-0 victory on a swampy field at Rossview High School in Clarksville Friday night.
McFerren scored three touchdowns while running for 175 yards on 31 carries in a game that more closely resembled mud wresting rather than football. Henry County finishes the regular season with a 9-1 record and secured the District 10-AAA championship outright.
The win over the Hawks was hard for the Patriots to celebrate because of a first-half injury to senior receiver/safety Skylar Haley. Haley broke a leg while playing defense and left the field by ambulance.
Henry County will be at home in the first round of the playoffs next Friday. The TSSAA will begin announcing the playoff brackets for the six classifications at 7 this morning.
To see the Patriots' playoff prospects, check this page later today or Sunday if the rainy weather prevented all the necessary games being played on Friday. Look for photographs and more details on the Patriots' win at Rossview in Monday's Post-Intelligencer.
