Fire at Jaipur Indian Oil depot; 5 killed, 90 injured

Five persons were killed and more than 90 injured in a massive fire that broke out at Indian Oil Corporation’s fuel depot in Sanganer area in Jaipur on Thursday night. The depot is on the highway close to the airport. It is reported that all the four oil containers have been exploded in the fire break. The massive fire broke at 7.30 PM.

According to state officials, help of Army has been taken to help douse the fire.

Murli Deora, Petroleum Minister said, “The fire is massive. We are finding it difficult to douse it.” Deora is on the way to Jaipur.

Medical Superintendent at SMS hospital Dr Ashok Pangudia said 2 persons were brought dead and one was reported to have died in a private hospital. He also added some of the injured had splinter injuries.

There were huge flames in the air amid billowing smoke. Two villages in the vicinity have been evacuated and people in and around the depot panicked fleeing away from their homes. In the radius of 3 km the fire have spread where there is some industrial units and have destroyed them.

Ashok Gehlot, Rajasthan Chief Minister, said that the help of the Army is being sought to help douse the fire.

Sources say the fire broke out at the time when petrol was transferred to a pipeline from the depot. It is suspected that there may be a leak in the pipeline, which caused the blaze.

Sarthak Behuria, Chairman of IOC said the fire broke out at a petrol storage tank.

The depot contains around 80-90 lakh litres of fuel products.
