Android 3.0 Gingerbread to Hit Tablets in Dec Ahead of January Launch
According to an information published in DigiTimes , technology giant Google has informed its technology/hardware partners that the Android 3.0 (Gingerbread) operating system (OS) will hit the engineer samples of the tablet PCs set to show up in December.
Notebook pc brands such as Asustek Computer, Acer and Micro-Star International are expected to release their tablet PCs in January, 2010 at CES (Consumer Electronics Show). The South Korean electronics giant Samsung is also expected to showcase its Android 3.0 (Gingerbread) updated Galaxy Tab along side HTC and Motorola.
Google is all set to launch the Android 4.0 (to be named Icecream) in the 2nd half of 2011. Technology experts believe that Google will gradually be able to increase its share in the tablet PC market after the launch of Android 3.0 (Gingerbread) OS.
Google is betting high on the cost benefit that Android adoption will to the manufacturers, which is usually US$50-60 for Windows OS but only US$10 for the license of Android. The price gap of over US$30 between Intel processor and ARM processor is also a factor for players to go for Android platform.
