Double Ironman World Champion and Birmingham alumna Chrissie Wellington has crushed the Ironman distance world record by 13 minutes, competing at the Quelle Challenge Roth in Germany.
The geography graduate won the race with an incredible time of 8:31:59, more than seven minutes ahead of her nearest rival to maintain her unbeaten record at the ironman-distance, with her seventh win from seven starts. What makes her achievement even more amazing is that Chrissie was sat in a doctors surgery in Germany only days before the race getting treatment for shingles.
