The Huffington Post launched a British edition, in the first expansion outside North America for its news and opinion website.

The Huffington Post UK has hired a small team of full-time journalists to produce the website as it seeks to push into international markets following its acquisition in February by Internet company AOL for $315 million (218 million euros).

The site, www.huffingtonpost.co.uk, has enlisted high-profile contributors from the world of politics and entertainment, including former British prime minister Tony Blair and comedian Ricky Gervais.

"I am delighted to be in London today for the first Huffington Post launch outside of North America," said a blog post from founder Arianna Huffington, who is now president and editor-in-chief of AOL Huffington Post Media Group.

"We are arriving here in the midst of a rich and thriving media culture marked by great innovation."

A Canadian edition of the site was launched in May and a spokeswoman said there were plans to expand into France and Russia although there were no firm launch dates as yet.

U.S. single-family home prices fell for a fifth straight month in November and could plumb new lows soon, a closely watched survey showed on Tuesday.
The Standard & Poor’s/Case-Shiller 20-city home price index released Tuesday fell 1 percent in November from October. All but one city, San Diego, recorded monthly price declines.

Eight others sank to their lowest levels since prices peaked in 2006 and 2007: Atlanta, Charlotte, N.C., Las Vegas, Miami, Portland, Ore., Seattle, Tampa, Fla., and Detroit, which saw the largest drop at 2.7 percent from the previous month.

Millions of foreclosures are forcing prices down, and many people are holding off making purchases because they fear the market hasn’t hit bottom yet. Many analysts expect home prices to keep falling through the first six months of this year.

“With these numbers, more analysts will be calling for a double-dip in home prices,” said David Blitzer, chairman of S&P’s Index Committee.

Mounting foreclosures will probably throw more properties on the market this year, further depressing prices, homeowners’ equity and construction. The lack of a sustained housing rebound and unemployment above 9 percent are among reasons the Federal Reserve may announce this week it’ll complete a second round of stimulus that will pump $600 billion into the economy by June.

The housing market has been struggling since home-buyer tax credits expired earlier this year. To take advantage of the tax credits, buyers had to sign purchase contracts by April 30.

“A double-dip could be confirmed before Spring,” said David Blitzer, chairman of the index committee at S&P. Blitzer defined a double-dip as both the 10 and 20-city composite indices setting new post-peak lows.

He noted that the 10-city index is 4.8 percent above its April 2009 low while the 20-city index is just 3.3 percent higher than its low that same month.

Unadjusted for seasonal impact, the 20-city index fell 1.0 percent in November after a 1.3 percent decline in October.

“I find it hard to believe that if we get a double dip in home prices we could get the consumer back in a meaningful way. Right now it seems like a coin toss as to whether that’s likely. So I’m disappointed,” said Uri Landesman, president of Platinum Partners in New York.

Do you get nervous for Antwuan? He has an amazing talent.
It hurts me. I take this to heart. We used to call him Candy. He came when he was 15-years-old just eat candy and best perfume ever and just wanted to skate. Now I’m talking to him like an older brother, straight from my heart. I know it’s bad with my brothers because I had my brothers that go through the same role, in and out of jail. But I’m telling him that he was able to change their lives. You’ve got to give and giving you to do it right. This is something that Andrew Reynolds has taught me, “the only way you can do for them to do it right.” So the best thing I can do for them is to stay on this forum. I tell him not to take yourself down, you have to be strong for his mother and brother.

Everything that I have experienced in my life … that’s what I want to teach everyone in my city and inner cities across the country and in my African American culture, do not be afraid of who you are. If I was afraid of who I am as a person, whom I’ll never be on the phone with you right now, I would never have friends like Andrew Reynolds, I would never skateboarder, nothing would ever be for me. That’s why I wanted to do a TV show to show, I come from the same situation or worse, as many African Americans, and I was able to prevail because I stayed true to what I believe in.

General Motors Co. is getting back into the credit business, a move that will give retailers more options to lease and finance car sales.
GM said Thursday it would buy AmeriCredit Corp. in a cash transaction valued at approximately $ 3.5 billion and approximately and 24.50 per share.
The acquisition gives GM what is known as a unit captive finance or lending division that allows greater flexibility to offer leasing and finance deals. You could fill the role once played by GMAC, the company sold almost a minority interest in that company in 2006.

General Stanley McChrystal was reportedly called back to the United States earlier today, Fox News reports, ‘for a face-to-face meeting with President Obama after issuing an apology Tuesday for an interview in which he described the president as unprepared for their first meeting.’

In the interview with Rolling Stone McChrystal also criticized Ambassador Karl Eikenberry, saying he felt “betrayed” by his diplomatic partner.

McChrystal’s comments are reverberating through Washington and the Pentagon after the magazine depicted him as a lone wolf on the outs with many important figures in the Obama administration. It characterized him as unable to convince some of his own soldiers that his strategy can win the nation’s longest-running war and dejected that the president didn’t know about his commendable military record.

The article, written by a journalist who was allowed to travel with McChrystal and his inner circle for weeks, further states that although McChrystal voted for Obama, the two failed to connect from the start. The president apparently even called McChrystal “on the carpet” for “speaking too bluntly about his wish for more troops.” Darn those generals who are determined to win wars even when politicians are trying to surrender without losing face!

In any case, the interview caused quite a stir. So much even so, that McChyrstal felt forced to apologize earlier today saying: “I extend my sincerest apology for this profile. It was a mistake reflecting poor judgment and should never have happened.”

He has now been called back. We will remain on top of this story, more to come later.

The United States is poised to launch on Wednesday the latest in its family of high-tech meteorological satellites that watch storm development and weather conditions on Earth from high in space.

The launch window for the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite-P (GOES-P) will open at 0617 pm (2317 GMT) on Thursday and close an hour later, US space agency NASA said in a statement.

A Delta IV rocket will carry the satellite to its orbit around 22,000 miles (35,406 kilometres) above the Earth's surface.

From orbit, GOES-P will collect and send back to Earth data that will be used by scientists to monitor weather, make forecasts and issue warnings about meteorological incidents.

The satellite will also detect ocean and land temperatures, monitor space weather, relay communications and provide search-and-rescue support.

The first GOES satellite was launched in 1975.

GOES-P is the latest in the most recent generation of US geostationary weather satellites.

GOES-P will be launched for NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), which oversees the US National Weather Service, by United Launch Alliance, a joint venture of Boeing and Lockheed Martin

Short track skater Simon Cho making his debut in the Vancouver Olympics. Zhu, 18, is the youngest member of the U.S. team. Xu was born in Seoul, South Korea, where he began skating at age 3 because his father wanted to find a way to Zhu to release his energy.

Zhu and his family moved to Chicago when Cho was 5 years old, Zhou continued to ski in local clubs.

Xu later moved to Maryland in 2000, and began training in 2001 in the framework of a national team coach Jimmy Yang. Zhang Zhu continue to coach since moving to Salt Lake City in 2007.

Shaw considered quitting skiing in January 2009 due to physical exhaustion and mental development. Cho was a member of the national team since 2001 and was named one of the United States team for three players. Prior to 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics, and Zhou’s family agreed to get a tattoo if it made the Olympic team. Zhu, along with her father, mother, sister and two brothers got matching tattoos of the Olympic rings and Julie (13). Zhu and tattoo is on top of her foot.

American figure skater pair Levora Amanda started playing hockey and turned to snowboarding at the age of 12 years after her sister tried to ski on the ice. Levora left her family home in Texas at the age of 18 to pursue her skating. EVORA skating partner is Mark Ladwig.
