  Mercy Ravi, wife of Overseas Indian Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi, died here early today morning at the Madras Medical Mission hospital, family sources said. She was 63. The body will be brought to Kochi on a special flight around 11 a.m and will be kept for the public to pay homage.

Mercy Ravi died of kidney failure around 3 a.m. Ravi and his three children were at her bedside when she died. She was admitted to the hospital on Aug 27.

Daughter of Kuruvila Kallukaran and Thankamma, Ms. Ravi was born on March 18, 1946. She married Mr. Ravi on June 9, 1969. Ms. Ravi is survived by three children, Ravi Krishna, Lisa Rohan, and Lakshmi Ravi.

Mercy had served as MLA in the 11th Kerala State Legislative Assembly from Kottayam. Ms. Ravi was also member of the Kerala Mahila Congress Committee and general secretary of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee. She had represented the country in the world women’s conference held in Beijing in 1995.

She had also written a book Paroli Pomena narrating her life experiences.
