Google Waves Goodbye to Wave

Monday, August 9, 2010

Screenshot_1 Google is set to ditch Wave, a program which was meant to reinvent email and transform the way people communicate with each other on the Internet. Google Wave, which was launched last year, combined email, instant messaging, blog publishing and features into a single “wave” that made it possible for users to collaborate on documents in real-time.  The company says the reason for its decision is because it “has not seen the adoption we would have liked”, which means that the service has been poorly accepted by users.

Google has been accused of being overly optimistic and too ambitious with the product which some users described as being too confusing and difficult to use without serving any special purpose. Although the organisation has not said how many people signed up for or used Wave, it intends to stop developing Wave as a standalone product although the Website will be maintained until the end of this year. The product was created by Danish brothers, Jens and Lars Rasmussen, who were also behind Google Maps.
