jwelch Former General Electric CEO Jack Welch was expected to return home Tuesday after spending 92 days in the hospital with a stubborn infection.

Welch, 73, was to leave New York-Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan, according to posts he and his wife, Suzy Welch, made on their Twitter accounts.

Welch was admitted to the hospital on July 5, suffering from a bacterial infection in his back and shoulder. In a Twitter posting late Monday, he thanked his supporters for “helping me win my toughest battle yet.”

Welch spent two decades as GE’s chairman and chief executive, helping build the Fairfield, Conn.-based conglomerate into one of the world’s largest companies.

Since retiring in 2001, Welch and his wife have focused on corporate leadership training. In June, Welch announced plans to start a new online MBA program through Chancellor University.
